Are They Honest with You?

One timeless quality that most property managers who are on the list of management companies in California will tell you is that honesty is one of the best traits to look for in a potential renter.

Ideally, a prospective renter should be more than willing to share their complete history with you especially if it’s been good, bad or “ugly”. If the renter is honest and open with you about their past, you should be able to work with them to find the best housing option that will work for their needs.

Are They Consistent?

You should look for renters who do the things that they say and also say the things that they mean.

  • Were they on time to meet with you?
  • Does their credit report reveal that they pay their bills on time?
  • Did the prospective tenant fill out the application completely or did they need reminders to fill out the entire application?

Do They Have Verifiable References?

Even though you may have a good feeling about a potential renter, you should always verify everything that they tell you including their current/former employer, last known addresses and personal references.
