Dublin, originally known as Amador and Dougherty's Station, is a Californian East Bay community. It is situated in the Tri-Valley area of Alameda County's Amador Valley. It is situated about 35 miles east of downtown San Francisco, 23 miles (37 km) east of downtown Oakland, and 31 miles north of downtown San Jose near the confluence of Interstates 580 and 680 along the north side of the highway.

Dublin is home to a variety of neighborhoods, one of which being Wallis Ranch, a sizable construction by Trumark Communities that consists of about 816 units spread across eight neighborhoods and was created with assistance from numerous architectural firms. Tassajara Hills, another community, has about 370 detached homes built by Toll Brothers. Through initiatives like Aster and Valor Crossing, the latter of which serves veterans and their families, the city's emphasis on transit-oriented development is clearly visible. Avalon Dublin Station, a recently finished premium rental building, expands the area's housing options.

On the eastern side of the city, Dublin has experienced significant growth and development that has drawn well-known retailers like Whole Foods Market, Nordstrom Rack, Dick's Sporting Goods, HomeGoods, and a second Target store as well as renowned restaurant chains like BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse and Lazy Dog Restaurant & Bar. Numerous commercial centers in the city have had substantial renovations and expansions, while newer additions include Hacienda Crossings, The Shops at Waterford, The Shops at Tralee Village, and others. The Federal Correctional Institution, Dublin, and the Parks Reserve Forces Training Area (PRFTA), often known as Camp Parks, are among the notable institutions that call this region home. Santa Rita Jail is another. The County of Alameda, Dublin Unified School District, Ross Stores, Kaiser Permanente, and other notable organizations are among the city's top employers, according to the 2020 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.

The Dublin Unified School District, which runs a K-8 school, middle schools, and Dublin High School, is in charge of the local public education system. The high school is now undertaking a significant renovation project supported by Bond Measure "C" with the goal of improving facilities and expanding enrollment. Dublin High School has achieved distinction by being listed among America's top public high schools in Newsweek's 2010 list. Also available in Dublin are private schools including Quarry Lane School, St. Raymond School, Valley Christian Schools, and St. Philip Lutheran School. A second comprehensive high school is being built in the area and is slated to open soon under the name "Emerald High School." This is part of a larger effort to improve the area's educational infrastructure.

With two BART rail stations—Dublin/Pleasanton and West Dublin/Pleasanton—Dublin offers effective public transportation. A hotel, restaurant, flats, and office space are among the extra services available at the 2011-opened West Dublin station. WHEELS provides local bus services. California State Route 84 encircles the city, which is strategically situated at the junction of Interstates 580 and 680. Despite the absence of direct US Routes or significant California State Highways, Dublin provides simple access to the larger road network. Although Oakland International Airport is the closest among the major San Francisco Bay Area airports, Dublin's connection to BART allows for easy access to Livermore Municipal Airport, which is the closest airport.
