Temecula began as a bedroom community for residents who commuted to employment in neighboring areas, and was only incorporated in 1989.
The city of Temecula makes up the southwest portion of the Inland Empire region, located approximately 58 miles north of San Diego, and 85 miles southeast of Los Angeles. Temecula’s total area is just over 37 square miles, and the city is home to approximately 114,000 people.
The city of Temecula is among the desirable Californian cities with a Mediterranean-like climate, providing pleasant temperatures nearly year-round. Temperatures range in the 80s and 90s in summer and in 60s to 70s in the winter.
Temecula is home to over 40 wineries. Italian, Spanish, and French grapes are all grown in the area, mainly in the Temecula Valley. Visitors can enjoy a wide range of activities, from tours and hot air balloon rides, to the largest casino in the state.
2020 marks the 52nd anniversary of the Temecula Valley Southern California Wine Country. The area received formal recognition as an American Viticultural Area in 1984. The Temecula Valley now produces over 500,000 cases annually.
Temecula’s Old Town is a charming collection of farmer’s markets, farm-to-table restaurants, and craft breweries set among scenic boardwalks and rustic buildings.
The Temecula 2030 Quality of Life Master Plan was created to determine what community members wanted from their City, to set a baseline for indicators used to measure progress over time, and to create a performance-based process to accomplish the community’s goals.
The City of Temecula’s core values for residents are: a healthy and livable community, economic prosperity, a safe and prepared community, transportation mobility and connectivity, accountable and responsive City Government, and an overall sustainable city.
A 2014 survey of residents found that 96% of respondents rate daily life in Temecula as either excellent or good. The survey also reported the most common response for what residents like most about Temecula is the small town feel and community involvement among residents. Other favorable aspects include low crime rate, and the city’s cleanliness.
Temecula, located in Riverside County, is a thriving destination with plenty of high-end amenities for residents and tourists alike, from an extensive wine country to championship golf courses.
