California’s Top Events 2020
California is home to some of the nation’s hottest events. From the largest wine tastings to Fashion Week, the beginning of 2020 is full of exciting things you won’t want to miss. We’ve complied details on some of the largest and most celebrated events across the state.
Taste of Yosemite

This year The Ahwahnee Hotel, formerly The Majestic Yosemite Hotel, hosts some of the country’s best chefs in an intimate setting for a fabulous five-course dinner and wine pairing. Including signature dishes, exclusive chef’s demonstrations, and tastings, the events offer a unique look at the latest gourmet trends. Other events include a “Meet the Chefs” reception and the Taste of Yosemite Gala Dinner.
Sessions are only held from January 14 through the 30th, with dinner starting at $215 per person. Lodging and dinner packages are also available directly through the hotel.
Riverside County Fair & National Date Festival

In Riverside, it’s easy to get a date for Valentine’s Day! Located in Indio, 130 miles east of Los Angeles, the Riverside County Fair and National Date Festival is a ten day fair that initially began as a way to celebrate the end of the annual date harvest in the Coachella Valley. The fair is a major tourist attraction, and continues the legacy desert traditions while celebrating history and community.
Running from Friday, February 14 through Sunday the 23rd, the 74th annual festival is open from 10am to 10pm Friday through Monday, and from noon to 10pm on Tuesday through Thursday. The carnival features ride favorites like the ferris wheel and merry-go-round, and unlimited ride tickets are available ($25 Tuesday through Thursday, and $28 Friday through Monday). Children under 5 and Veterans receive free admission, and children 6-12 are $9. For adults 13-54, admission is $11, and over 55 $10. Advanced tickets can be purchased through the event site.
San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition

Celebrating its 20th year, the “San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition Public Tasting” is the largest competition of North American wines in the world. Featuring over 7,000 entries selected by professional wine judges from across the country, the event is expected to bring thousands of wine-lovers to the Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture’s Festival Pavilion. The event is scheduled for Saturday, February 15th from 1pm to 4:30pm and is open to those 21 years & up only. Advance tickets can be purchased for $75.
BNP Paribas Open

Outside of the four Grand Slams, the BNP Paribas Open is the largest international tennis tournament. Top-tier talent draws large crowds to the Indian Wells Tennis Garden for the 16-day event. In addition to the two large stadium-style courts, there are more than a half-dozen smaller courts, and a number of practice courts that are open-to-viewers. Special autograph signings and events are designed to get fans, especially children, face-to-face with the athletes.
The tournament begins March 9 and runs through the 22nd. Grounds pass tickets can be purchased for $20, and reserved seating runs from $45 to $160. Series packages, box seats, and hotel accommodation packages are available through the event

El Paseo’s Fashion Week is the largest on the west coast, and is sure to bring in the hottest fashions from the latest in the industry. This year’s event marks the 15th year of the annual show. Held from March 20 through the 28th, the world-class event is expected to provide an immersive experience with cocktail receptions, trunk shows, meet-and-greets with celebrities, and more. The newest collections from some of the most prominent designers, influencers, and innovators will be on display.
Packages featuring tickets and hotel accommodations can be booked through the event itself. For locals, seats at the event vary from $80 to several hundred, depending on proximity to the runway. Student tickets are available for $35. Whether or not you decide to attend a runway show, there is still plenty to see and do in the area, with tons of celebrity and high fashion to be found outside the venue.
