Ventura’s economy centers around tourism, hospitality, technology, and education. The County of Ventura is the city’s top employer, employing over 15% of the population. The city is also well known as the home of the outdoor clothing brand Patagonia. The Ventura Ventures Technology Center was created in 2009 as an economic incubator for tech-related companies to develop and to attract modern entrepreneurs. Whether you’re interested in investing in Ventura or just visiting, these are the must-see hotspots in the city:

Downtown

Of course, downtown Ventura is a lively cultural center, featuring museums, galleries, shopping, and dining, as well as the Mission San Buenaventura, a historical foundation of the city constructed in 1782. You can also find the Ortega Adobe, the Ventura city hall, and the statue of Junipero Serra.

Plaza Park

Plaza Park forms in downtown Ventura at the intersection of Chestnut and Santa Clara street. This park features a Moreton Bay fig tree, and sits across the street from the main post office. While this may not seem like an exciting location, the Section of Painting and Sculpture commissioned local artists to paint murals on the interior walls of the post office as New Deal art.

Harbor

The Ventura Harbor features a retail center, restaurants serving fresh seafood, fishing boats, as well as the Ventura Harbor Village. It is also home to the Channel Islands National Park Headquarters, where boats depart to the Channel Islands every day.

Pierpont Bay

Pierpont Bay is a popular residential area sitting in between San Buenaventura State Beach and Ventura Harbor. This neighborhood draws attention for its unique mixture of architectural styles, from modest beach cottages to modern mansions. Pierpont also offers a small retail district along Seaward Avenue, and of course, public beaches.

Olivas Adobe

Sitting adjacent to the Olivas Park Golf Course, Olivas Adobe is one of the most highly visited historical sites on the central Pacific Coast. The Adobe is an old California-Rancho-styled home that is now operated as a performing arts venue and museum. You can see demonstrations of Rancho life, living history reenactments, and ghost story presentations. The courtyard holds a summer music event featuring a variety of performances of all genres, from country to blues and jazz.
