Westside Los Angeles, California is home to the enclave known as Palms. Although Palms does not have official borders, the Los Angeles Times "Mapping L.A." reference guide places the 1.95 square mile area northwest of Culver City, south of Cheviot Hills and Beverlywood, southeast of Rancho Park, west of Mid-City, and northeast of Mar Vista. What would now be Manning Avenue bordered Palms' northeast on the 1886 subdivision map submitted to Los Angeles County.

Palms, Los Angeles enjoys pleasant summers and mild winters due to its Mediterranean environment. From 48°F (9°C) in January to 63°F (17°C) in August, the average high temperature varies from 67°F (19°C) in January to 81°F (27°C) in August. The region experiences moderate precipitation, with January, February, and March having the highest averages—3.36 inches (85 mm), 3.62 inches (92 mm), and 2.92 inches (74 mm), respectively. The summer is considered the dry season because there is little to no rain from June to September.

Single-family homes and smaller residential buildings in the Spanish Colonial and Craftsman architectural styles were the predominant features of Palms until the early 1960s. Larger apartment complexes were constructed in place of most of the historic housing after zoning changes in the 1960s. With 92% of the population renting, this change has made Palms one of Los Angeles' most crowded and reasonably priced rental-centric communities. The Westside Village neighborhood stands out due to its proportion of owner-occupied single-family houses, despite the area's predominance of apartment complexes. Being next to Culver City, which is well-known for its office and industrial facilities, draws a lot of people, making Palms a lively but crowded neighborhood.

A wide variety of landmarks can be found in Palms, such as religious complexes like the Iranian-American Muslim Association of North America (IMAN) on Motor Avenue and the International Society for Krishna Consciousness on Watseka Avenue. The area is home to many Indonesian, Indian, and Pakistani businesses, as well as a good number of shops and restaurants with a Brazilian flair. The original Chippendales club was founded in 1979 by Steve Banerjee, a Bengali immigrant, and brought a distinctive element to the local entertainment landscape. Other notable sights in Palms include the Museum of Jurassic Technology and the Ivy Substation, which is home to Tim Robbins' Actors Gang. The Ivy Substation is part of Media Park, which is leased to Culver City for an extended period of time.

With excellent access to the 405 and 10 freeways, Palms offers convenient transportation. The neighborhood is connected to Santa Monica and Downtown Los Angeles by the Metro E Line, which has a station in Palms since 2016. Palms is known for its bike-friendly environment and features bike lanes on important thoroughfares like Motor Avenue and Venice Boulevard. Though there is a contentious break in the route, the Expo Bike Path, which was built beside the Metro E Line, makes it easier for joggers and cyclists to reach the Palms station. The neighborhood also benefits from LAnow, an on-demand shared-ride service that was introduced in May 2019. Users may make quick reservations using a phone, web, or smartphone app, and pick-up and drop-off locations are always a few streets away within the service region.
