Don’t let stress beat you!!
Is stress bringing you down? We all know what that’s like! From the deadlines at work, school projects, household chores, and relationship obligations; it’s a never ending cycle! The truth of the matter is that stress can cause feelings of anxiety, weight gain, depression and much more. So, it would behoove you to make some time, even if just a half hour a day, to take a break from your obligations and pamper your body and mind.
Here are a few simple, yet effective tips on how to ease the effects of stress. Now, stop grumbling and making excuses about how you don’t have time. The key to stress relief is to MAKE THE TIME! Instead of eating that pound of cookies and ice cream or lying out in front of the TV mindlessly flipping through channels, take the time to take care of yourself!
1. EAT RIGHT– Stress levels and a proper diet are closely related. Unfortunately, it’s when we have the most work that we forget to eat well and resort to indulging on fatty and sugary snacks and drinks to keep us fueled. Ignore that vending machine and plan ahead! Bring your own snacks. Not only is it cheaper, but it’s better for you. Fruits and veggies are always good, hummus and pretzels, raw almonds, peanut butter and celery…I could go on!
2. EXERCISE– Exercise doesn’t have to be a dreadful thing! A short walk around the office or simply standing up to stretch during a break at work can offer immediate relief in a stressful situation. Getting the blood flowing will help your body release endorphins which have an almost instantaneous calming effect!
3. CALL A FRIEND– We all have that one friend that can pull us out of any sour mood! So take a few minutes, call that friend and catch up. Have a laugh! Get nostalgic and reflect on all the shenanigans you managed to pull off when you were in your prime! That feeling of comradery and the laughter will trick your nervous system into calming itself down! Plus that friendly and familiar voice at the other end of the line can help you put things in perspective!
4. TACKLE THE STRESSES ONE AT A TIME– I’m sorry! Multitasking is for the birds! When you are overwhelmed with projects and obligations, the last thing you need to do is give just a fraction of your attention to your tasks. That’s just a recipe for disaster and more stress! Instead, take a deep breath and prioritize. Work on one project a time from start to finish. You’ll find that not only do things get done accurately, they also get done! Keeping your focus on each goal will help you maintain your sanity!
Good luck!
