Don't Let Anything Stand in Your Way on Thanksgiving Day
As the days have passed, the majority of us have built up loads of excitement anticipating this year’s Thanksgiving holiday. To picture a table full of delicious turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing and pumpkin pie only provokes mouthwatering thoughts. For some however, these thoughts only bring shear panic to those that need to prepare every detail before the doorbell rings and guests appear at your doorstep.
Before you jump into overdrive preparing your Thanksgiving feast, there are a few key things that you will want to double check and prepare before the big day.
Tuning up the kitchen is by far the most important step as it will be the center of attention for the next 24 hours. Before cooking, make sure that all appliances you will be using are in tip-top working condition. Turn your oven on and double check that the stove is working properly. Make sure all items you will need such as spices and pans you will be using are easily accessible so that time is not wasted searching for them.
As guests begin to arrive, many will be accompanied by a coat. To avoid a coat pile-up on your couch or by the front door, clear out the hallway closet for your friends and family to hang up anything that they do not wish to carry around for the night.
Preparing for how many guests you will have will help you arrange your home so that your guests will have a place to sit and enjoy themselves before, during and after dinner. Bring out any spare chairs or stools that you may have hidden away so that each person can relax. When setting the table, bring out the good silverware and place settings to accompany each guest.
Although the kitchen and dining room may be the primary place of gathering at your holiday party, the bathroom remains the second most popular room. Cleaning up the bathroom is very important as it will be used quite often. Provide fresh towels and an abundance of toilette paper and tuck away any toothbrushes or personal items for the evening.
While cleaning your home, if the clock is ticking away and it appears you may not have time to clean a particular room or two because it won’t pass the white glove test. Close it off for the party and place a pleasant note that it isn’t open for guests.
As ambiance is everything when it comes to a fantastic Thanksgiving party, candles can add a special something to the décor. They make a delicate and festive touch to any home. Using unscented candles for this particular holiday is recommended as the scent of a candle can clash with the amazing smell of a great Thanksgiving meal.
Although minor glitches can often arise during a stressful time such as this when you are entertaining others in your home, preparing to spend a wonderful time with family and friends on Thanksgiving is worth it.
