How To De-clutter Your Home this Winter
With the excitement that comes with the beginning of a new year, it’s easy to get lost in the hustle and bustle that happens during and after the holidays. Many times our homes are left subject this. De-cluttering and organizing your home is a great winter project, as you can get rid of the added stress it may cause you and really enjoy your home to the fullest.
One of the most common New Year’s resolutions for people each year is to get more organized. As the first month of 2013 draws to its end, it isn’t too late to really kick start the year by de-cluttering and organizing your home.
The first step to de-cluttering your home this year would be to set some boundaries so you don’t overwhelm yourself. Really think about if you’re looking to re-vamp the whole house or maybe a room or two in particular. Also think about what you would like the room to look like. Are there any specific areas of a room that really bother you, such as winter coats getting tossed over the couch instead of hung up?
Now, the key to really eliminating clutter in your home is making a few necessary decisions. The main decision and probably most difficult for some is creating the piles: “toss, keep and donate.” Some items may be hard to part with, but it’s important to remember that the main idea is to get rid of useless clutter.
Many times the kitchen is the most common place for things to pile-up. After the holidays, be sure to double check that there aren’t any gadgets that could be stored away.
Getting the most out of your home is best done by maximizing your space. This can be done by using your wall space to the fullest. Shelving and wall hooks are ideal tools for really opening up a room and they add a special something to your home if the walls were a bit bare before.
One useful tip, if you are hesitant to part with some household items is to place them in a box for a few months and after some time has passed, re-visit the box and see if you have actually missed anything in there.
Now if clutter is starting to take over your home, use some of these tips to get your new year off to a fresh and organized start in your home!
