DIY Air Conditioner Maintenance

 Remove the Fan Cage – Using a screwdriver, remove the fan cage from your air conditioner. Once the fan café is removed take a wet/dry vacuum cleaner and vacuum up any twigs, leaves or debris that may be inside your air conditioner. 

 Clean Your Air Fins – After removing the fan cage you should take a can of compressed air and blow dirt or debris from your air conditioners fins.   

The fins are the outer membrane of your air conditioner. Over the course of one year, they can become embedded with dirt or debris and can be easily cleaned.   

Replace Your Air Filter – One important thing to do is always replace the air filter to your air conditioner because the filter will help your A/C to “breathe” easier and run more efficiently.  

Test the temperature – Last of all, but most important, you should test your air conditioner to make sure that it’s actually doing its job to keep your rental property home cool.  

 To do this you will need to wait until a day where it’s 80-degree weather then place a thermometer on one of the vents that’s closet to your air conditioner unit. The air coming in your Los Angeles rental property should be at least 20 degrees cooler than the air inside your home. If the air coming in is not significantly cooler then you should consider calling an air conditioner repair company to get your A/C professionally serviced.
