Located at the southernmost point of Silicon Valley in the San Francisco Bay Area, Morgan Hill is a city in Santa Clara County, California. In general, Morgan Hill is located about 24 miles south of downtown San Jose, 13 miles north of Gilroy, and 15 miles inland from the Pacific Ocean. The Santa Cruz Mountains and the Diablo Range form its western and eastern boundaries, respectively, and it is located in a southern extension of the Santa Clara Valley that is about four miles wide. About 350 feet above mean sea level, or MSL, is where Morgan Hill is located in the valley's bottom.

Because of the Pacific Ocean's moderating effect, Morgan Hill experiences a mild Mediterranean climate. From a comfortable July high of 90.2 °F (32.3 °C) to a chilly midwinter low of 33.6 °F (0.9 °C), the weather fluctuates. Average annual precipitation is 18.9 inches (480 mm), with dry summers and infrequent snowfall. Summers are frequently foggy along the coast, while winters provide bright and partly cloudy days with sporadic downpours. The terrain of the area reduces the likelihood of thunderstorms, violent windstorms, and tornadoes. Chaparral and grassland habitats can flourish in this climate, while live oak forests can be found at higher altitudes.

There is a wide array of recreational activities one can engage in in Morgan Hill. The famed Specialized bicycling Co. is located in Morgan Hill, which has a robust cycling environment thanks to its support of a strong bicycling culture and staging of the Tour of California. In addition to Henry W. Coe State Park, which is the second-largest state park in California, the city also has access to Anderson Lake County Park, Coyote Creek Parks & Trails, and Uvas Canyon County Park, which is tucked away in the Santa Cruz Mountains to the west. Galvan Park, Morgan Hill Community Park, which has an off-leash dog area and a skate park, the Centennial Recreation Center, which has a number of amenities, the Morgan Hill Community and Cultural Center, which has an amphitheater and a satellite campus of Gavilan College, the Morgan Hill Aquatic Center, and the Morgan Hill Outdoor Sports Center are additional features.

The Morgan Hill Unified School District (MHUSD), which serves Coyote Valley, San Martin, California, and Morgan Hill, is in charge of the city's public education system. Schools in the MHUSD have won awards including California Distinguished Schools and National Blue Ribbon Schools. Live Oak High School and Ann Sobrato High School, which is ranked among California's top 100 high schools, are two examples of public high schools. In order to run four specialized public "focus academies" in subjects like engineering, STEAM, math, music, and health sciences, MHUSD partners with The Tech Museum of Innovation. Gavilan College has a campus in Morgan Hill as well. Numerous private schools, both nonsectarian and religious, are located in the city, including Saint Catherine Catholic School, Crossroads Christian School, and Spring Academy. Nonsectarian institutions in the area include Oakwood School and Stratford School.

It is well-known that Morgan Hill has one of the top 500 most expensive areas to live in the United States. This is explained by its wealthy population and strict growth controls. The Santa Clara Valley AVA, which is reserved for wineries and vineyards, includes the city. Specialized Bicycle Components, a world leader in high-performance bicycles, is one of the eminent businesses with offices in Morgan Hill. Anritsu, Flextronics, Velodyne, and Infineon Technologies have their American headquarters or bases in the city, which also has a thriving tech industry. Top employers in the city, per the city's 2018 Employment Report, include Specialized Bicycle Components, Anritsu, and the Morgan Hill Unified School District.
