Gresham, OR is considered a suburb of Portland, though it was officially incorporated in 1905. It’s in Multnomah County, just 12 miles east of Portland proper and about 70 miles from the Oregon Coast.  With a large inventory of rental property, about 50% of properties rented, Gresham is a great place to find an apartment or home to rent.

 

It’s a relatively flat area geographically. Johnson Creek runs through Gresham, and only the eastern portion is somewhat hilly. Residents experience typical Pacific Northwest climate, with a short sunny summer and frequent rain and clouds the rest of the year.

 

A growing city with a population of 105,594, it is Oregon’s 4th largest city. Population here is growing fast, skyrocketing in the 90s. Its city limits include just 23 square miles. The only large employer in city limits is the Adventist Medical Center; other than that, employment is found locally mainly at shops and restaurants.

Median price for homes is $313,000. Average apartment price is $195,000.

Average market rent is $1295 for a 1 bedroom and $1389 for a 2 bedroom.

Gresham has a young and vibrant community with the median age of residents 37.7 years. Politically, it is not as trendy or progressive as the city limits of Portland. The racial breakdown is 63% white, 4% black, 5% Asian, and 21% Hispanic.
