According to the planning delineations of the metropolis of San Diego, North Park includes both a neighborhood and a larger "community" inside the dynamic metropolis of San Diego, California. This interesting area is bounded by a number of distinctive features: Park Boulevard and University Heights to the northwest; Florida Canyon to the west; Balboa Park to the southwest; Switzer Canyon and the South Park neighborhood to the south; Interstate 805 and City Heights to the east; and finally, City Heights and University Heights to the northwest.

In 2012, Forbes named North Park, a thriving San Diego neighborhood, as a top hipster destination. Craftsman-style homes, restaurants, microbreweries, and the North Park Farmers Market are examples of how diversely cultural it is. The North Park Theater, Ray Street Arts District, and Observatory North Park music venue are all located in this area. Along 30th Street and University Avenue, there is a bustling food scene, which is complimented by restaurants and clubs. Annual events include the North Park Music Thing and the North Park Toyland Parade. A thriving pedestrian culture distinguishes the area inside San Diego County.

Interstate 805 is the main hub for transportation in North Park, and it can be reached from the University Avenue and El Cajon Boulevard exits. El Cajon Boulevard, which connects Mission Hills and El Cajon, and University Avenue, which goes to Hillcrest and La Mesa, are important thoroughfares. While 30th Street connects to nearby neighborhoods, Florida Street links North Park to Downtown San Diego. Mission Valley may be reached via Texas Street. A comprehensive bus network that comprises routes 1, 2, 6, 7, 10, 11, and 215 makes it feasible for the University Avenue transit corridor (routes 7 and 10), which is the busiest in the San Diego metro area, to function.

North Park showcases interesting areas like the area around Morley Field with its one-of-a-kind fusion of building styles from many ages. The area around 28th and Pershing Streets, which is bordered by Upas Street to the south and Landis Street to the north, is known for its Craftsman and California bungalows, many of which were built by renowned builder David Owen Dryden. The City's Historical Resources Board approved the creation of the North Park Dryden Historic District in 2011, honoring Edward F. Bryans as a Master Builder.
