You know that locals call our city Ventura, for short, but did you know that the city’s “formal name” is actually San Buenaventura? That’s right. The name comes from Mission San Buenaventura, an actual Spanish Mission that was established way back in 1782 by the late Father Junipero Serra.
What’s cool about Ventura’s history is that you can actually tour the original mission because it’s still standing in the historic district of Downtown Ventura.
